TIRUPATI/TIRUMALA:
Heavy rain lashed the temple town of Tirupati Sunday leaving all the low-lying areas inundated. Many roads were flooded with knee-deep water causing havoc to the movement of vehicular traffic.
Flood water entered the houses located in low-lying areas like Navodaya Colony, Poolavani Gunta, Chandrasekhar Reddy Colony, Yasoda Nagar, SV Nagar and Railway Colony thereby giving a harrowing time to the residents.
Meanwhile, the authorities of the Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) supplied food to teh rain-affected. The authorities shifted around 1,000 people from the low-lying areas. People in the Auto Nagar area were in knee-deep water and some of the locals were shifted to the nearby school function hall. People residing in many areas inundated in the flood water were unable to get food packets supplied by the TMC.
Fresh Landslides on Ghat Road
Fresh landslides occurred on the Second Ghat Road of Tirumala hill following incessant rain Sunday. Boulders rolled down on the road due to which the traffic was disrupted for a few hours. Later, the TTD engineering staff swung into action and removed the boulders with the help of earth-movers.
Meanwhile, the traffic was stopped at the Alipiri Check Point till the road was cleared. Later, the traffic was diverted through the link road to reach Tirumala as the second ghat road was completely damaged due to the landslides.
RTC regional manager Nagasivudu visited the ghat road and deployed staff at Mokali Mettu to the top curve of Tirumala ghat to avoid accidents as the vehicles are using only the first ghat road. The TTD staff at Alipiri Check Point are alerting the devotees going through the vehicles to be careful about the landslides.
Meanwhile, heavy rains since Saturday evening battered the hill shrine of Tirumala and the flood water logged at many places including in front of the main temple. The devotees who are in Tirumala have been facing hardships as they had to take shelter at shops, buildings and also at Nadaneerajanam hall located in front of the temple.
